jin lounging

the other day on my way out to work, i walked out into the garage and saw my roomate’s cat, Jin, lounging on top of his car just hanging out. it surprised me cause i’ve never seen him lounging there. he likes to lounge in some odd places sometimes. like outside in the dirt, on the bathroom counter, halfway inside a room, etc.

moving to Korea

i decided a while back after visiting Korea back in February to look into the possibility of going to school there to learn the Korean language. actually, only after a few days of being there, i started having thoughts of either teaching English there or studying Hangul (the Korean language). i really liked it there, but it may have mostly been the vacation to a new country… whatever the feeling at that time, when arriving back in the US, i’ve been craving to go back and have been studying Hangul on and off ever since. i applied to Yonsei University and was accepted to the fall semester! the plan is to move to Seoul at the end of August, stay with the Hong family, which are very cool, and then search for an apartment and take care of other things like Alien ID, Student Visa, bank account, etc. for a few weeks before the semester starts near the end of September. everything is falling into place so far. i still have a big list of things to take care of in the next few months. i’m excited about it and a bit nervous–mainly i worry about getting everything taken care of when i’m over there and also hopefully not getting lost in the giant city of Seoul…

Yonsei has a one and a half year language program split into 6 semesters with an optional 7th semester afterwards. it’s 4 hours per day, 5 days a week. i’ll probably look for a job after getting the hang of the language enough. it should be an interesting adventure :) i also want to make some “tutorials” on how to move to Korea and go to school once i get settled to help out anyone else who may be considering it

Couple or Trouble

Couple or TroubleI finished watching this Korean Drama not too long ago. It’s called Couple or Trouble, or 환상의 커플. It’s by the same writers who made Sassy Girl Chun Hyang and My Girl. The story is about a very self-centered rich girl who, after causing much trouble to a hard-working guy, loses her memory. The guy sees the girl at the hospital, and decides to get revenge by telling the doctor’s she’s his girlfriend. He wants to put her to work as a caretaker/babysitter at his place for his nephews. There’s lots of comedy in this one, and i liked the main characters a lot. Most of it is predictable, but it’s still fun :) Yesasia did the subtitles and release of this TV series, and they did a very good job of it too.

new design

if you haven’t noticed, i changed my website design around. it’s a bit random and abstract, but i like it :) i’m still tweaking parts here and there. i hope to make updates more often since it’s been a while since i’ve posted…

it’s been a while since i’ve posted. the big news was that i took a 2 week vacation in South Korea with my cousin back in February. it was lotsa fun even though i couldn’t speak or understand the language much at all. i can read the words (very slowly when i was there), but couldn’t understand most of what they meant. i picked up a couple books that i’ve been studying and can say some very basic stuff like 나는 한국어를 공부해요 (i study Korean), and 오늘은 날씨가 촣았어요 (the weather was good today). it’s pretty fun learning the language now :) we mainly stayed in Seoul and then 5 or 6 days in Chuncheon. met a lot of people my cousin knew when he was there on his church mission. i’m glad he was fluent enough to communicate, otherwise i’d have a 2 week trip at the airport… we stayed with a great great family in Seoul. they kept us fed and warm and comfortable in their cozy house :) i liked it there so much, that i’m going to try going back and live there for a while and attend Sogang University and take their Korean language program :)

some highlights of the trip:

  • great nice people i met - they were all very kind and friendly :)
  • got to meet up with one of my good chat friends and go swing dancing with her and her friends - swing dancing there is no different than here :)
  • the food! i loved the food! well, most of it. only one thing was very very spicy, which i forgot the name of. the peanut butter roasted squid was a bit too squidy for my liking. the uncured bacon was probably my favorite, and everything else i liked was a very close second :) OH! and 번데기 (beondegi) are not “salty raisins” and are NOT good :-p
  • Seoul was very crowded, dense, and more or less an endless sea of buildings. but it seemed cleaner than big cities i’m used to (San Francisco) and safer too

Harry Potter comic 1

Harry Potter comic 1my first Harry Potter comic! i’ve been wanting to make short webcomics for a while now, and came up with this last sunday at church–yes, i was listening to the lessons :p i was doodling Harry in the center, and tried drawing other faces of the main 3 characters and it just turned into a short silly comic. unfortunately, i used pen, so i scribbled out the extra faces that didn’t make the cut :p the next (of hopefully many) comics i’ll draw, i’ll clean them up and not have them look so quick and sketchy like this one
